GLYPHEIN

Terms of use

The terms under which you may use Glyphein Flow Globe.

Short, because the product is simple: it runs in your report, it sends us nothing, and Microsoft sells the licences.

Parties

These terms govern the use of the Power BI visual “Glyphein Flow Globe” (the “Visual”), published by Loïc Laprade EI, trading as Glyphein (“Glyphein”), in France.

By installing or using the Visual you accept these terms on behalf of yourself or the organisation you represent.

Licence

Glyphein grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Visual inside Microsoft Power BI, for your internal purposes, for as long as you comply with these terms. The free features may be used without charge. The Premium features listed on the AppSource page require a licence for each user.

Premium licences

Premium licences are sold by Microsoft through Microsoft AppSource and are assigned in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Prices, billing, renewal, cancellation and refunds follow the plan shown on AppSource and Microsoft's terms for marketplace purchases.

When a user has no valid licence, the Premium views are replaced by their free equivalent; no data is deleted and the report remains readable.

Ownership and restrictions

The Visual, its source and compiled code, its design and Glyphein's own additions to the embedded data are the property of Glyphein and are protected by copyright and database rights. All rights not expressly granted in these terms are reserved. The same applies to the copy of the Visual that runs on this website.

You may not:

  • circumvent or disable the licence check;
  • redistribute, sell or sublicense the Visual;
  • modify, decompile, disassemble or reverse-engineer it, except to the extent the law expressly allows it (in particular for interoperability, Article L.122-6-1 of the French Intellectual Property Code);
  • extract or reuse all or a substantial part of Glyphein's code or of Glyphein's own additions to the embedded data, other than through the normal display of the Visual;
  • remove the attributions of the data sources or the copyright notice.

The third-party data and software listed below remain available to you under their own licences; nothing in these terms restricts the rights those licences give you.

Your data

Your data remains yours. The Visual processes it only inside your Power BI session and sends nothing to Glyphein. See the privacy policy.

Third-party components

The Visual includes data and software published under their own licences. All of them are embedded in the package; none is downloaded at run time.

  • GeoNames - place data

    Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0), through the all-the-cities package (MIT). The Visual shows the credit Places: GeoNames (CC BY 4.0) · Natural Earth · world-countries (ODbL).

  • UN/LOCODE - port codes

    Open Data Commons Public Domain Dedication and License 1.0 (ODC-PDDL): about 4,300 port codes, such as NLRTM, from the UNECE register.

  • world-countries - country data

    Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. The country table derived from it is published under the same licence: open data.

  • Natural Earth - map data

    Public domain, converted through world-atlas (ISC).

  • d3-geo, d3-array and topojson-client - software

    ISC License.

  • Sora and Inter - fonts

    SIL Open Font License 1.1. The copyright notices are kept in each embedded font.

  • Lucide - icons

    ISC License. A small set of icon outlines; those Lucide derives from Feather are under the MIT License.

  • GeographicLib - software

    MIT License, through d3-geo, which includes part of it.

  • PowerBI-Flowmap - algorithm

    MIT License, © 2017 Weiwei Cui. The spiral-tree method that bundles flows is adapted from it.

Geographic accuracy

Places are located from an embedded database, at the precision of a city, port, country or continent. Positions are approximate and are provided for analysis, not for navigation or any decision that requires an exact location. Where you supply coordinates, they take precedence over names.

The Visual reports the places it cannot locate and the names that match several places; checking these notices remains your responsibility.

Updates

Glyphein may update the Visual. Updates are distributed through Microsoft AppSource and may be applied by Power BI automatically.

Support

Support is provided by email at support@glyphein.eu, on a best-effort basis, without a guaranteed response time. See the support page.

Warranty

The Visual is provided “as is”. To the extent permitted by law, Glyphein gives no warranty that it will be free of errors or suited to a particular purpose.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, Glyphein is not liable for indirect damage, such as loss of data, revenue or business. Glyphein's total liability is limited to the amounts you paid for the Visual in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

Termination

Your right to use the Visual ends if you breach these terms. You may stop using the Visual at any time; cancelling a Premium subscription is done through Microsoft.

Changes

Glyphein may change these terms; the new version applies from its publication on this page, and the date below changes with it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by French law. Any dispute falls within the jurisdiction of the courts of the place of Glyphein's registered office, unless mandatory law provides otherwise.
