GLYPHEIN

Analytical instruments for Power BI.

Today there is one: Flow Globe, which draws the flows between places on a globe or a flat map.

Flow Globe in its Value view on a flat world map: arcs from Asia and Africa converge on Rotterdam and two cross the Pacific to Los Angeles, each as thick as its value, with a legend for category, thickness and place size.

The approach

  • Nothing leaves the report

The visual runs inside Power BI and makes no network call. Your data stays in your session. The security page shows how to check.

  • Every mark encodes a value

Thickness carries the value, colour the category, size the activity of a place. Nothing is drawn only to decorate.

The name

γλύφειν

To engrave, to carve. Said “gli-fine”.

Where γράφειν lays ink on a surface, γλύφειν takes material away.

Many printed sea charts of the 16th to 19th centuries were engraved with a burin on copper: a direct lineage, and we make maps.

In the lineage of Bertin, a glyph is the graphic mark that encodes a value: the name describes what the product makes.

We engrave what your data says.
